When heading to Port Townsend from Quality Heating’s offices, you may spot a nuclear submarine in Hood Canal, waiting for the floating bridge to swing open as it heads out to deeper waters.

One of our favorite places, “PT” is a wonderful combination of old and new; classic Victorian architecture and the latest in fashion, food and shopping along Water Street.

It is the county seat and only incorporated city of Jefferson County. In addition to its natural scenery at the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula, the city is known for the many Victorian buildings remaining from its late 19th-century heyday, numerous annual cultural events, and as a maritime center for independent boatbuilders and related industries and crafts.

The Port Townsend Historic District is a U.S. National Historic Landmark District. It is also significantly drier than the surrounding region due to being in the rainshadow of the Olympic Mountains, receiving only 19 inches or 480 millimeters of rain per year.

Port Townsend’s warm season lasts for 2.8 months, from June 23 to September 17, with an average daily high temperature above 68°F. The hottest day of the year is August 3, with an average high of 74°F and low of 56°F.

The cool season lasts for 3.7 months, from November 14 to March 3, with an average daily high temperature below 51°F. The coldest day of the year is January 1, with an average low of 38°F and high of 45°F.
